Sometimes perfection has to take a holiday

Während ich darüber nachsinne, wo ich eigentlich am 23.07. (siehe unten) war bzw. woher ich zurückgekommen bin (Gedächtnis war noch nie meine Stärke) und gleichzeitig versuche, entweder beschäftigt auszusehen oder das Haus (bzw. Hotel) zu verlassen und Richtung Rijksmuseum zu schlendern, um mich seelisch und moralisch auf die lange Schlange und das Einreihen darein vorzubereiten, hier ein paar wesentliche und unwesentliche Dinge, die mich entweder aufregen oder die passiert sind.

1. Ich war in Tisnov, das hübsch wie immer ist und jetzt auch einen noch hübscheren Spielplatz hat.

2. Mein Computer (Notebook) regt mich auf, weil es sich durch ausgesprochene Langsamkeit auszeichnet und das Internet immer ausschaltet. Ich denke ernsthaft darüber nach, mir Windows 7 zu kaufen (sic!), in der Hoffnung, dass dann alles gut wird, oder wahlweise Ubuntu zu installieren, so dass ich wenigstens weiß, woran es liegt (nämlich dann wohl nicht an der Hardware :D).

3. Lenka V. hat nach vier Jahren ihre Diplomarbeit abgegeben (mit nur leichter Verspätung von 4 Tagen und 2 Stunden), bereitet sich auf ihre Staatsprüfung vor und sagt, ich habe dazu beigetragen.

4. Ich war auf einer Papageienausstellung und habe schöne Fotos gemacht, die auf Facebook zu bewundern sind.

5. Touristen in Prag regen mich auch auf, insbesondere wenn sie auf dem Fahrradweg laufen und der Meinung sind, dass ich sie nicht umfahren werde.

While I’m considering what it was I returned from on July 23rd (see post below) – a good memory has never been one of my strong sides – and try to look busy or convice myself to leave the house (hotel) and go to the Rijksmuseum, at the same time trying to prepare myself for a long queue in front of it and waiting there for hours on end just to see the Nightwatch, here a few more or less interesting things that either happened or that annoy me.

1. I’ve been to Tisnov, which is nice as ever and has an even nicer playground now.

2. My computer (notebook) is annoying me, because it is extraordinarily slow and switches off the internet connection for no reason at all. It is annoying enough to make me consider buying (sic!) Windows 7, hoping all will be well after that, or to install Ubuntu (so that I’ll at least know that if something is not working, it’s not a hardware issue :D).

3. Lenka V. has, after 4 years of writing and being only 4 days and two hours late, finally handed in her thesis, and for some reason is claiming I had something to do with it.

4. We went to a Parrot Exhibition and I took some nice pictures which I put up on facebook and which make me, as always, wish I had the money to buy a Nikon D3s.

5. Tourists are one of the most annoying things I’ve ever seen, especially if they walk on the cycle path and really think I’m going to brake for them.

Nach langer Stille (zumindest hier) nur kurz: ich fahre nachher gleich nach Amsterdam, da werde ich hoffentlich etwas mehr Zeit haben, mich um meine ganzen Online-Auftritte zu kümmern :)

Just some short lines after this long break (I spend to much time on Facebook, it seems): I’ll be off to Amsterdam for a few days, and hope to have some more time to take care of all my online sites…

Tja, die Hitze hält Prag auch weiterhin im Griff, ebenso wie Arbeit, die natürlich immer prompt in dem Moment eintrifft, wenn man sich grad entschieden hat, Japanisch-Hausaufgaben zu machen oder Gitarre zu üben oder dann doch mal wieder das Blog zu beglücken oder die sinnlosen Spiegel-Online-Meldungen zu lesen, die in letzter Zeit das Sommerloch füllen.

Aber zurück zu den wichtigen Dingen (die auch schon wieder Ewigkeiten her sind): Wir haben (mit Jan) Magda, Magdas Eltern und Nürnberg beglückt, und ansonsten ist nicht viel passiert (zumindest scheint es so). Die Weltwirtschaftskrise schlägt auch hier zu, so dass ich mich mit gutbezahlten Übersetzungen von Anne durchschlagen muss, statt etwas sinnvolles zu machen wie zum Beispiel ganz viel zu lesen (immerhin hab ich es geschafft, aus Vorschaffenslangeweile zwei Bücher in zwei Tagen durchzulesen und Blutspenden zu gehen).

Oh, und 15 Grad sind auch eine Temperatur, die überhaupt nicht überbewertet wird…

Sorry, I’m too lazy to translate today… it’s 30 degrees outside, so don’t expect anything… If your sitting in a well air conditioned room, take a dictionary and try your luck, but I don’t think it’s worth it :)

Nach langer wilder Reise (allerdings nicht durch die Nacht) bin ich wieder in Praha… und werd später mehr schreiben… vielleicht :)

After some long hours on several trains, I’m back in Prague again… and will write some more later on, now it is too hot for me to do anything productive.

Last week, we visited Brugges (this decision was influenced by watching “In Brugges”) and officially inaugurated (and terminated) this year’s festival season. As every year, the festival weather was terrific (a bit too much sun maybe?), the music was good (when I come to think about it, last year’s music wasn’t that good…) and (new!) even after the last day I was still able to hear things (due to my new – and rather expensive – ear plugs which are supposed to reduce the volume, but to leave things like melody, bass, guitars etc untouched. Obviously the first factor (melody) is irrelevant at a metal festival, but still (and I kind of doubt the rest – it really seems to depend on the band – Slipknot sounded shitty with them, but I’m not sure if that was due to the quality of their performance, or the ear plugs).

Also, New Year’s resolution to have a look at the line up before buying the tickets was a good one – the had Korn there, and Slipknot, Static X (well, it seems they play everywhere, but anyway), Soulfly and good old Marilyn M. (mind you, I’m not a MM fan, but his performance wasn’t as bad as the last concert I saw with him – at least he play as long as promised, did not spend most of his time lying around on stage, even communicated with the audience and reduced at least 3 microphones to dropping pieces of metal-saliva-things).

Ohn, and Brugges are nice, but expensive (and watch the movie!).

U.: Ale chutnalo! Tobe to nechutnalo.

L.: Nemam rada makove buchty. Nesnasim mak. A toto testo je nejake divne.

U.: Tak vis co, ja udelam to testo, a ty nastrouhas jablka.

L.: Grrr. Ja nesnasim strouhani jablek.

U.: Ale urcite se ti to bude libit vic nez delani toho testa.

L.: Jak dlouho to tam ma byt?

U.: 40 minut.

L.: To je nejaka divna buchta. Proc tak dlouho?

U.: Nepripaluje se to? Nejak to tu smrdi.

L.: Tak ja to teda vytahnu, mi se zda, ze uz to je hotove.

Ucastnici se domluvi, ze vsechno, co je na tom podareneho, se pripise Lence, zbytek Urukovi.

Buchta se podarila (Lenka se stezuje, ze nesnasi nemlety mak). Aicina navsteva (Anglican) rika, ze mak je vyborny, pokud clovek nepocita s tim, ze to je cokolada.

*Pozdeji rika, ze to vedela, ale ze se teda obetovala…

Ich habe es endlich geschafft, die Fotos aus Kalifornien und vom 24-h-OL online zu stellen.

I finally managed to upload the pictures from California and the 24 hours orienteering competition.

Das ist mein Lieblingsfoto (aufgenommen im Redwood National Park), auch wenn ich es wohl nochmal kurz Ondra zukommen lassen sollte, damit er zaubert (der Scanner und der Bildumformer warns! – obwohl es auch vom Monitor abhängt, wie ich gerade sehe, auf meinem Eizo siehts ok aus). Eines Tages kaufe ich mir eine digitale Spiegelreflexkamera.

This is my favourite (taken in Redwood National Park), but I have to admit it needs some photoshopping (damn scanner and picture resizer! – but it also seems to depend on the monitor you are viewing it with, on my Eizo it looks ok). One of these days, I’ll get myself a digital SLR.

Oh, und die Tschechen haben ein neues Hobby: Eier auf Politiker werfen (schade um die Eier).

hab ich erwähnt, dass ich SF toll finde (und 150 Dollar für Unterwäsche ausgegeben habe, ganz zu schweigen von den 250 Dollarn für Bücher)?

oh and did I mention that I love SF (and spent 150 Dollars for underwear, not to mention the 250 Dollars I invested in books)?

Ich habe gerade ein paar Bilder auf Flickr hochgeladen, und sogar eine kurze Beschreibung dazu geschrieben (auf Englisch). Die Bilder sind von Lenkas Digitalkamera, also nicht zu viel erwarten – die richtigen Bilder folgen, wenn ich wieder da bin.

I just uploaded a few pictures (made with Lenka’s little digicam, so don’t expect too much – I’ll upload “real ones” when I’m back) on flickr, and even added a description (in English).

Morgen fahr ich weg, und ich komm am 25.05. wieder! Möglicherweise werd ich das Blog zwischendurch mal aktualisieren, oder ein paar Fotos auf Flickr oder Facebook hochladen…

Tomorrow, I’ll go on vacation, and I’ll be back on May 25th. Maybe I’ll update the Blog, or upload some pics on Flickr or Facebook…
